Students at T.E. Baxter Elementary performed today in the school's Jump Rope for Heart Assembly. Congratulations to everyone and thank you for all of your hard work in becoming Heart Heroes.

chiradesMrs. Terry's second grade class at T.E. Baxter Elementary plays chirades today to practice for their upcoming spelling test. Cassidy C. is covering her head for the word "storm".

 

 


paper stripsStudents in Mrs. McClure's 5th grade Science class at T.E. Baxter Elementary School laid out paper strips to illustrate the distance of the planets from the sun. The distance took up the 5th grade wing and moved down half of the 3rd grade hallway!

 


rock rappersStudents in Mrs. McClure's 5th grade Science classes at T.E. Baxter Elementary performed Ricky The Rapping Rock. They were able to showcase their rapping skills while learning about the different types of rocks and the rock cycle.

 


arithmetic racksFirst Grade students in Mrs. Caldwell's class at T.E. Baxter Elementary are showing different ways to make 12 on their arithmetic racks. Students are conceptually learning that the 5 (set of red beads) is always 5 and they don't have to count by ones every time to show a new number. Way to go!


jump ropeT.E. Baxter Elementary students are practicing their jump rope skills as they gear up for the big Jump Rope for Heart Celebration and Assembly on Feb. 17th. Students are helping our PE Teachers, Mrs. Storm and Mrs. Larue, by raising money to support the Jump Rope for Heart Association. What a great job students!

rock studyStudents in Mrs. Vlach's first grade class at T.E. Baxter Elementary have been studying a rock unit. They used hand lenses to observe rocks and compare the various attributes of rocks.

finding volumeStudents in Mrs. Hilary Cooper's math class at T.E. Baxter Elementary have been building models of irregular shaped figures to find the volume of the object. They have also learned the formula LxWxH=V to find the volume of rectangular prisms and cubes.

 


Mrs. Williams visitMISD School Board Member, Cindy Williams, was honored on Friday by T.E. Baxter Elementary school for her dedication and service. January is School Board Appreciation Month and Mrs. Williams came to TEB and had lunch with 5th grade Student Council reps.

Digestion labT.E. Baxter Elementary 2nd Grade teacher, Deanna Edmister, engages students in a live demonstration of what happens to stomach contents while traveling through the digestive system. Second grade has been studying the systems of the body this week.

snow dayT.E. Baxter Kinder Friends in Mrs. Moore's class created their own Snow Day this week. Since our weather wouldn't cooperate, they made their own "Texas" style snow and created life sizesnowmen during our cold wintery week at school. No real snow this week, but Mrs. Moore's class had funmaking it happen in their own special way!

Sue The Panther visitMHS Mascot, Sue, came yesterday to T.E. Baxter Elementary to promote and upcoming Cheer workshop. She walked through the gym and took time out for pictures with some of our awesome 2nd grade Baxter students.

 


book buddiesT.E. Baxter Elementary Book Buddies, Kasen and Luke, share some time together this morning reading. Kasen is in Mrs. Vlach's first grade class and Luke is in Mrs. Hilary Cooper's fourth grade class. They get together every Friday to share reading.

 


math funStudents in Mrs. Moss's third grade class at T.E. Baxter Elementary spend time in math groups working on fine-tuning their math problem solving skills.

 

 


trade daysSecond grade at TE Baxter ended their economics unit with Trade Days. Students made and sold their goods with "wampums". Wampums were earned by students over the past few weeks as positive behavioral reinforcement and all goods were, in turn, purchased with earned wampums.

reindeersTE Baxter Elementary Kindergarten "reindeer" painted their noses red and went to visit the nursing home in Waxahachie. They spread Christmas cheer with their senior friends.

Gingerbread VillageT.E. Baxter Elementary first graders in Mrs. Caldwell's class have been studying direction today by making a Gingerbread Village with street names and their very own Gingerbread houses. Students were figuring out directions by using North, South, East, and West to move along the streets in the village.


Driessen visitTCU Professor, Klaus Driessen, shared his mother's experiences during the Holocaust with Baxter 5th graders.

 

 


grinch artT.E. Baxter Elementary First Graders spent last Friday learning about Dr. Seuss and The Grinch. They used bubble maps to find adjectives describing The Grinch and then wrote stories on "How to Be A Grinch".

 


Christmas cardsMrs. Hutchinson's class at T.E. Baxter Elementary has been enjoying Christmas Cards from around the world as part of a project. Quinlen reads the card to his friends and they put a sticker on a world and US map for every location represented by the cards. We have been very excited and thankful for all of the cards we are receiving.


Move it CongaSecond graders in Mrs. Stewart's class at T.E. Baxter Elementary enjoyed a Conga Line during their morning "Move-It" Routines. They practice different concepts through music and movement on various days.

 


research projectAiden M., second grader in Mrs. Terry's class at T.E. Baxter Elementary, explains his animal research project to his classmates. Students shared with Aiden what they specifically like about his research project.

 


Allison & Taylor SwiftT.E. Baxter 4th grader Allison W. went to Miami and met Taylor Swift backstage at her concert. Allison battled cancer most of last year and chose to meet Taylor Swift as part of her Make A Wish. Allison, who now sings and plays guitar was able to get her guitar autographed during her visit. Allison is now cancer free.


Pre-K Thanksgiving FeastT.E. Baxter PreK Little Indians and Pilgrims share in their first Thanksgiving Day Feast.

 

 

 


1st Thanksgiving FeastT.E. Baxter Elementary hosted it's First Annual Thanksgiving Feast on Wedensday. Aramark prepared yummy turkey and dressing with all the fixings. We had over 150 special guests join us for a day of Thanksgiving. Pictured, Mrs. Moore's friends shared their Thanksgiving meal time with loved ones. Thank you for coming and joining us!


JoustT.E. Baxter Elementary 5th graders, including our very own King Arthur, performed the musical, Joust today for the school. They will have another performance tonight at 6:30 p.m. in our cafeteria.

 


parent career dayT.E. Baxter Elementary hosted Parent Career Day today. We had several occupations represented. We had real estate, graphic design, vet tech, energy, chef, and organic lawn specialty. Ms. Neese, a vet, shared with our students about caring for animals.

 


viola swampViola Swamp, the sub you love to hate, in the Miss Nelson is Missing series, came to sub in 2nd grade at Baxter this week. While visiting, she shared her story with them. She also talked about how she was a "sub" for Miss Nelson like "pronouns are a sub for nouns". You know, I don't think Miss Swamp is as mean as she wants us to think. Livie M. seems to be enjoying Miss Swamp's company!


Veteran's DayT.E. Baxter Elementary honored Veterans and service men and women - past and present today at our Veteran's Day Assembly. We had several special guests today. Gavin S. and his great-grandfather, Charles Arnold, share this day together. Mr. Arnold is a WWII vet.

 


Vet Day ProgramT.E. Baxter Elementary held a Veteran's Day Program today. We loved honoring so many Veterans and their families. We certainly missed not having Mr. Baxter at our assembly, but we continue to honor him with our thoughts on this day.

Panther Reader pic 4Students in Mrs. Eidson's third grade class at T.E. Baxter Elementary enjoyed one last reading by our high school football reader. Quindell has been a bright spot on our Friday mornings this fall. We will miss him.

 


energy researchStudents in Mrs. McClure's 5th grade science class at T.E. Baxter Elementary do research on alternative energy resources. Aaron V. receives help from Mrs. Webster, the student teacher, to find information on nuclear energy.

 


basketball clinicThe MHS Panther Basketball teams and coaches came over to T.E. Baxter and put on a basketbll clinic for 2nd-5th graders.

 

 


costume paradeA group of Mario Brothers came out today at T.E. Baxter in celebration of the Fall Parties. All students and staff enjoyed a costume parade to Monster Mash to start off the day!

 

 


museum visitT.E. Baxter PreK and PPCD classes visited the Ft. Worth Science Museum and had fun shooting water to try and move objects. Other activities they participated in include a wind exhibit, viewing reptiles, and studying insects.

 


Mayor's TrickMayor Whatley shows the 2nd graders at TE Baxter one of his tricks. He came to speak to them about his job as Mayor of Midlothian.

 

 


timelineStudents at T.E. Baxter Elementary share colorful timelines from their own lives. Each timeline starts with their birth and continues through the third grade. Each student filled in interesting facts in chronological order.

 


RibbonT.E. Baxter is celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week. Today, Mrs. Flaherty's kindergarten class supports Red Ribbon Week by wearing their favorite sports jerseys in order to Be A Good Sport and Don't Do Drugs!

 


hedgehogT.E. Baxter Community Based Instruction Class visited Paws 4 Reflection Ranch today. Jedi looks on as the lesson about the Hedgehog is shared with all of students. Each student enjoyed riding a horse, as well. What a fun time for everyone!

rowdy runnersTwenty-two of T.E. Baxter's Rowdy Runners participated in the Downhill Dash 5K race last Saturday. Baxter had 39 participants which included staff members, students, and parents.

Elvis visitElvis was in the building recently for T.E. Baxter's "Rock and Roll Forever" program featuring the talented fourth grade class. Thanks, Luke A., for rocking the Elvis gig!

 

 


MFD visitMidlothian Fire Department visited T.E. Baxter Elementary today in recognition of Fire Prevention Week. They conducted safety lessons with students in all grade levels about fire safety. We were very glad they visited!

 


flat stanleyStudents in Mrs. Eidson's 3rd grade class at T.E. Baxter Elementary study a map of Hershey, Pennsylvania. Flat Stanley had gone to visit and he returned with brochures, great pictures and lots of chocolate from Chocolate World.

 


atomsT. E. Baxter third graders learn about molecules and atoms by studying the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.

 

 


stampsT.E. Baxter third graders used autumn-themed stamps to exhibit arrays that represent their multiplication.

 

 


Desk RibbonT.E. Baxter fourth graders in Mrs. Bailey's class honor Pink Out today by arranging their desks in the symbol of the Pink Ribbon used in the campaign.

 

 


GPS PiratesAhoy Matey! Mr. Dorris passes out supplies to T.E. Baxter 2nd graders as they prepare to enjoy a 2-day Pirate unit. Students have interacted with longitude, latitude, and GPS systems to locate treasures and complete math tasks. Their tasks have included patterns, fact families, and addons.


MHS PALMidlothian High School PAL, Chelsea, spends time at lunch with T.E. Baxter 4th graders Hannah and Alyssa. We are very glad to have our PALS come visit us each week.

 

 


Flow mapT.E. Baxter third graders in Mrs. Claunch's class have been working on writing a "re-telling" story about Cinderella. They are using a Flow Map to gather ideas and prepare to put their stories together.

 


salt doughTE Baxter 2nd graders have been constructing salt dough maps of the state of Texas to culminate a unit on landforms.

 

 


MarblesT.E. Baxter student, Dylan C., measurs the mass of how many marbles he could grab with his right hand on Mrs. McClure's triple beam balance. Students competed in the Metric Olympics by measuring mass, length and volume.

 


Constitution Day"We the people..." of T.E. Baxter Elementary created Preamble mini murals in 4th grade to celebrate Constitution Day.

 

 


Creepy crawlersT.E. Baxter kinder friend, Jack, checks in on the "creepy crawling" house guest that is visiting Mrs. Moore's classroom this month. Jack said that he learned the tarantula visitor was nocturnal!

 


CBI StudentsT.E. Baxter Community Based Instruction students, Maddie and Kaylee, stir up some brownies in preparation for the staff luncheon their class provided today. It was yummy! All proceeds will help fund their field-based learning experiences their class will take this year.


cubesDuring a 5th grade math lesson in Mrs. Byler's class at T.E. Baxter, fifth graders Steven C. and Vincent V. explore volume using cubes to build a rectangular prism. Building 3D geometric solids with manipulatives provide the students with a concrete visual.

 


pressure testT.E. Baxter student, Macey W., waits patiently in Mrs. McClure's 5th Grade Science class to observe a chemical change. Students dropped an Alka-Seltzer tablet in a water filled film canister to have the top explode off after building up pressure from the gas being released.


Good BehaviorTE Baxter 2nd grader, Darcy, earned 5 tickets for good behavior in Mrs. Edmister's class. Darcy's reward was a visit with the principals and she demonstrated a Circle Map for Mrs. Day by asking Mrs. Day "What kind of things do you like?"

 


Penny cleanersT.E. Baxter third graders are learning about the scientific method using pennies. They enjoyed seeing how many drops of water could fit on a penny without running off the sides.

 

 


apple studyTE Baxter first graders in Mrs. Caldwell's class study a cross-curricular unit on apples. During a science experiement, Piper and Nicholas observe the two apples - one apple has lemon juice on it and the other apple doesn't. After their observations were made, they wrote about their findings.


Panther Reader pic 3MHS Panther Football player, Brendan C., came out to T.E. Baxter today as part of the team's reading program. Brendan wore his lucky Panther Paw socks to show off as he read a favorite book to Mrs. Gilson's first grade class. Go Panthers!

 


Panther Reader pic 2First graders at T.E. Baxter Elementary asked Slater, a Panther Football player, to bring his football pads and helmet to share. He put on his pads and showed off his helmet before reading a first grade favorite. Slater is one of 12 Panthers that come to read to our school every Friday morning.


helicoptersT.E. Baxter students, Isabelle T. and Kelly D., tested out their helicopters in Mrs. McClure's 5th grade science class. Students were manipulating variables to see what changes would make their helicopter spin faster or get to the ground quicker.

 


volleyball visitThe MHS Varsity volleyball team visited Baxter Elementary to help students in grades 2-5 work on their volleyball skills. After instructing the students, they played a game of Queen of the Court while students cheered for their coaches.

 


Grandparents LuncheonT.E. Baxter Elementary students, Alisia C. and Amilia C., enjoyed spending lunch with their grandmother during the annual Grandparent's Day Luncheon. During the two-day event, TEB hosted over 470 special guests.

 


map paintingT.E. Baxter Elementary 5th Graders Teresa M. and Rebecca L. create United States map paintings in the style of Jasper Johns. He is the first studio artist in 34 years to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom which was awarded by President Obama.

 


PlaydohDuring a Color Unit in first grade, TEB scientists in Mrs. Gilson's class asked the question, "What would happen if we mix 2 colors of play-doh?" Students journaled about their conclusions.

 


Value TeamworkStudents in Mrs. Hilary Cooper's class act as place values and digits to build a number in the hundred million. Only four students in the class could talk to accomplish the task. Great teamwork!

 


Remembering 9/11T.E. Baxter Elementary 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders gathered by the flag pole to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the September 11th events. Mark, Lexi, Jacob, Hunter, and Tanner are seen here reading a poem titled, "We're Still Standing".

 


Balloon RaceSecond graders at T.E. Baxter Elementary in Ms. Stewarts's class recently had a balloon race in their classroom. Students were learning about friction, work, and force. Students blew up their balloons and attached them to a sliding paper on a string. When they released their balloons they watched to see who's balloon had the most force or resistance.


GingerbreadGingerbread Men ran all over T.E. Baxter Elementary on Friday. It took lots of stops around campus, but Mrs. Moore's class finally found their gingerbread men in Mrs. Carpenter's office. (Below) Noah C. also shows off his Gingerbread Masterpiece!
